Washington reports indicate that next year’s tax cuts are likely as Congress weighs a large surplus and continued economy measures. Analysts expect relief possibly through raising personal exemptions from 3000 to 7000, with debate between Democratic and Republican factions continuing.

The State Highway Department invites bids in the Examiner for two Beaverhead County projects. One covers grading and drainage on seven and a half miles with a 50 foot timber pile bridge over Grasshopper Creek, extending from Badger Pass to Bannack area. The second bids 97,500 tons of crushed gravel surfacing from nine crusher sites across Beaverhead and three other counties.
The Fifth Judicial District Court opens with Judge Phillips Duncan presiding and vacates the Mike Gregovich involuntary manslaughter trial to the fall term. The case stemmed from an August 17 accident near the Beaverhead boundary on U S Highway 91, involving Mike Gregovich and Clyde Smith. John Gregovich died eight days after the crash, with Minnie Stewart as a passenger and Clyde Smith also injured.
County residents urged to attend a meeting at the Vigilante Electric building Friday night April 12 at 7 30 to organize a Beaverhead county chapter of the Montana Council of Traffic Safety. Dean Chaffin of Bozeman and Harry Duntsch led a preparatory session with Dr R J English named temporary chairman and Mrs Aileen Warrick in charge of publicity. Reverend E W Andrews of the Episcopal church leads the organizing effort.
A meeting for ranchers and Bedrock Horse Prairie residents with U S Bureau of Reclamation engineers and State Highway officials will be held at Armstead schoolhouse next Wednesday night April 17 at 8 o clock to discuss relocating highways for Clark Canyon Dam construction and ensure broad participation.
A letter from A. E. Stoddard, president of Union Pacific Railway, Omaha, commends Dillon Montana ads promoting economic understanding and regional friendship. He calls the Examiner's editorial and the ad campaign one of the finest displays of local community friendship he has seen, expressing appreciation and best wishes.
Incumbents Dave Williams and Richard Burns won seats on the District No 10 school board in Dillon with 106 and 91 votes while Erwin Christensen and Mrs. Morgan Hall trailed. Voters approved a special 10-mill district levy 143 to 30 and a separate 10-mill high school levy 135 to 37 though county totals will finalize the levy outcome.
Jayceens present the annual Jayceen Easter Parade fashion show on Friday night April 12 at 8 in the high school gym. Proceeds will go to Barrett Hospital Auxiliary to aid equipment for a pediatrics ward. Ticket sales will be run by Auxiliary members. past two years’ net funds financed playgrounds and city park equipment. The show features a contrast of Gay Nineties styles with 1957 fashion and is coordinated by Mrs. Faye McCracken.
City Council canvass of the eight member council led by Mayor Lovell found no changes to mayoral totals except Arthur Bay dropping from 327 to 317 votes. Voters debated six sprinkler bids but favored reconditioning the current unit to save money and extend service.
A. J. Simon was reelected chief of the Dillon Volunteer Fire Department at the annual meeting this week. Other officers elected include R. K. Kenison assistant chief Ray Lynch secretary and Bill McMannis treasurer.

Supervisor W. E. Fry of Beaverhead National Forest returned from Missoula where he attended a regional foresters conference. He and Carl Simpson of the Grazing and Wildlife section led a meeting in Three Forks with representatives from the Wildlife Federation Fish and Game Department Wildlife Service Yellowstone Park and local sportsmen from Madison Jefferson Broadwater Gallatin and Park counties. Simpson and Pal Weekune planned further meetings as Montana Idaho commissions and U S Forest Service officials from Salmon City and Bitter Root area continued discussions in Hamilton.
The week posted an average high of 49 and low of 26 with total precipitation of .15 inches. Overcast skies and mixed precipitation marked the period, including snow flurries and showers, and morning lows around 20.
