Taxpayers urged action as city council adopts a resolution to hold a June 26 bond election for repairing expanding and improving the water system. Growth since installation twenty years ago requires a more adequate supply especially during summer and college usage.
Beaverhead County hosts the first predatory bird and animal shoot by the Beaverhead Sportsmen's Association. R. T. Wemple led with 750 points, followed by Henry Deutsch 525 and Hiram Brundage 402. Many shooters posted strong scores, while C. W. Stallings of Bannack registered 1616 but was excluded from official standings. A second shoot is set for April 20. a celebratory dinner followed the event.
Six boys from Dillon may attend the students military training session at Fort Douglas this summer. Sam Carruthers Jr. was the first to apply, joining Dan Henneberry who completed the course last year. Boys interested should apply to Dr. R D Curry.
The Dillon Dry Goods Company interior has been transformed after a recent renovation. A burst water pipe two weeks ago flooded the lower floor, causing extensive damage and necessitating ceiling replacement. The store resumes normal business.
The fire department answered a midnight alarm in the north end of town. James McGeehee’s small house caught fire, roof ablaze on arrival, chemicals controlled flames. Owner blamed a defective fire. he was away and returned to see the roof breaking through. Insurance covered the loss.
Charles Riley McCalley appeared at the local opera house performing readings impersonations violin solos and violin imitations in his third McMinnville appearance in five years. The program featured Whitcomb Riley interpretations and musical accompaniments drawing encores and praise from contemporaries in McMinnville and Seattle for its engaging, skilled presentation.
Due to 90t and mouth disease spread in California and western show suspensions, the Montana Livestock Show and Auction Sale in Dillon set for April 24 25 26 is postponed. The stock convention and Woolgrowers meeting proceed as planned in Dillon, with strong expected attendance, per the Montana Stockgrowers Association officials.
Mr and Mrs Charles Burden Dr and Mrs W C Orr and Mr and Mrs Archie Henneberry arrived from California after spending the winter there. They traveled in their motor cars along the coast to Portland and found the roads in good condition with little mud. They enjoyed California but were glad to return to Montana.
Work on the Normal College project is set to start within weeks. Bonds have sold and $260,000 will fund the new facilities including a heating plant, a much needed library, and a modern gymnasium.
Jack O'Brien aged about 65 years died suddenly last Thursday morning at his cabin in the Cabbage Patch. A bunkmate woke to find him rising then falling dead. An inquest Friday morning returned a verdict of death by heart trouble. He had lived here several years and worked as a ranch hand. funeral held Friday afternoon from Brundage chapel.
Gregorys orchestra at Beaverhead County high school won first place at the State Music Meet in Great Falls. Beaverdhad entries totaled twenty points, with fifteen to the orchestra and five to Joe Sprinkle who won the cello contest. The meet featured a Paderewski concert and结束. future site planned for Butte.
Two taxpayers and B W Emerick the county assessor faced complaints that assessments were too low after purchases of automobiles. The episode recalls talk from last November about taxes not high enough, but this marks a new claim of underassessment to fund county coffers.
Helena April 7 Democratic candidates for presidential elector to be chosen May 27 filed nomination petitions with Secretary of State C T Stewart. Named Democrats include former Governor E L Norris Great Falls Mrs Henry L Sherlock Downsend Patrick Carney Waterloo and H J Calhoun Columbus. Montana has four electoral votes so other candidates are unlikely. Republicans have not filed yet.
Only thirty votes were cast at the regular school election held at the Normal training school last Saturday afternoon to select two trustees for the school board. Mrs A L Anderson and Marshal Field were chosen to succeed themselves with no dissenting vote.
After a conference with state veterinarian Dr W C Butler who returned from California areas hit by foot and mouth disease the executive committee for the livestock show and gate scheduled for April 24 25 and 26 postponed the event. The delay disappoints county residents though preparations are ready for the State Stockmen's convention on the 24th 25th and 26th of the month with plans for a three day program and entertainment for hundreds of visitors.
Ed Marlin and Al Simon, residents of the Cabbage Patch, were arrested by county officers for selling intoxicating liquors to minors including high school boys. They pleaded guilty, were arraigned before Judge Phillips, bound over to district court with $500 bonds, and fined $300 plus six months in jail each.
A special chorus of thirty two voices organized by I L Tello to support St James Episcopal church organ fund. Mr Tello will lead with Mendelssohn War March and other pieces. Dr W H Stephan baritone sings Invictus and The Americans Come. Margaret Poindexter Tello accompanist. Admission one dollar. seats on sale April 16 at Thomas Book Store.
The Examiner last week stated May 1 as the tax payment limit for the second period. The correct last date for payment of 1923 taxes in Beaverhead county is May 31.
Only fifty votes were cast in the regular city election with each ward choosing the incumbent alderman for another two year term. Louis Anderson led in Ward 1 with 16 votes, Leonard Eliel in Ward 2 with 9, Perry Bower in Ward 3 with 14, and W H E Lloyd in Ward 4 with 15. The Citizens caucus, chaired by Mayor Roscoe Cornell, met Thursday evening to nominate ward candidates.
Helena April 7. Petitions filed with the secretary of state by William G. McAdoo supporters asking his name be on the Montana Democratic primary ballot for the presidential nomination. More than 600 signatures collected. organizers expect more petitions before April 17, the filing deadline.
A trio of Normal training school teachers Miss Connie Martin Miss Berniece Patterson and Miss Beatrice Fletcher entertained a group of ladies at a bridge party at the Andrus hotel last Saturday afternoon.
The registration books for the Presidential Primary close at five o'clock on Friday. Two days remain to enter your name on the county registration books. The primary is Tuesday May 27. If you voted in the last general election and moved residence you must register. otherwise you may not need to. Ensure your name is on the great register before Friday night.
