State OPA attorney Russell Smith warns that war ration books are valuable and urges holders to record serial numbers to trace lost or stolen books. Carelessness such as leaving books in laundry pockets, using them to start fires, or leaving them in unlocked cars drives losses. Public cooperation has been strong, with a small minority careless about safeguarding the books.

Beaverhead Rancher Henry Brenner Dies in Washington
Henry W. Brenner a 63 year old Beaverhead rancher died in a Walla Walla hospital after a decade of ill health. Born May 30 1879 in Philadelphia he moved from Horse Prairie Montana to Walla Walla ten years ago. Survived by son J S Brenner brother Charles P and granddaughter Elizabeth all of Horse Prairie. Body to be shipped to Dillon for burial with arrangements pending.

Plane Crazy staged by Beaverhead seniors April 12
Beaverhead county high school seniors present the three act comedy Plane Crazy in the auditorium next Monday evening. The plot follows Jimmy Haleon a 17 year old who secretly works at the airport to learn to fly while misrepresenting his study habits at home. The cast includes Jimmy Haleon Charles Deputy George Haleon and other names with a full production staff and ticket sales arranged by Miss Josephine Kelly and Phyllis Davis. Reserved seats are available at the high school.

Five Dillon Men to Leave Monday for Armed Forces
Five Dillon men will depart Monday evening for induction centers. Two are Navy bound for Farragut Idaho and three join the Army at Fort Douglas as Beaverhead's April group, with other boards inducting elsewhere. Dave Williams and John George Rebish were accepted for Navy enlistment after exams in Butte. Donald Campbell Bob E Nurss and Donald Brown were Army recruits, Brown becoming acting corporal of his group.

Eugene McConnell former Beaverhead resident and nephew of Mrs. Mary E Sheppard died suddenly at his home in Kingsbury New York. Born in 1896 in New York state he lived in Grasshopper valley as a boy attended Beaverhead county high school and later became a Kingston businessman and president of Northwestern Coal Co. Survivors include his wife three sons a daughter and numerous cousins across Polaris Dillon Burbank Nogales and Phoenix.

Mrs. Nancy E. Smith former Dillon resident died recently at her daughter Mrs. Fred Nichols home in San Francisco. She was the widow of O W Smith a former Dillon rancher. The family operated a farm on the east bench then moved to Dillon and later to Pomona where Mr Smith ran a real estate agency until his death in 1932. Surviving sons include Ralph of Long Beach and Wy with two others.

Citizens' Committee Replaces Draftee Banquets With Dances
The Citizens' committee now plans only dances for draftees and visiting service men, removing banquets to ease burdens on business firms.
