Experts predict high prospects as Hagenbarth Greene spuds a test well in Crowley Gil field yesterday afternoon. Contractor L F Sountag says drilling progresses quickly barring accidents. Rig is standard and crew are seasoned drillers aiming for Shelby formation similarity.
Interest in Beaverhead county high schools annual rural schools track meet runs high according to Principal A T Peterson and indications point to the most successful county track tournament here. Dates tentatively set for April 29 and 30 with a possible one week postponement.
Dr W F Cogswell, head of the Montana State Board of Health, announces May Day chair for Montana Hazel Dell Bonness and assistant chair Sara Morse of the Montana Tuberculosis association. The American Child Health association promotes May Day focusing on child health and spiritual development through church channels.
Beaverhead valley rancher Clayton G. Schuler, born October 3, 1881 in Newark Ohio, died early Monday after illness. He had long resided in Montana and operated the family ranch with his brother after parents retired. Funeral services were held at the Dillon Methodist church with interment at Mountain View cemetery under Oda Fellows auspices.
Seven Beaverhead County High School musicians competed at the Livingston state music meet. A violin trio led by Kenneth Heat with Clyde Sewell and Helen Hoffman earned second place in their division while the violin quartet Grace Ewing Kenneth Wheat Frederick Crouse Edward Boger took third. Missoula won the meet. the Livingston delegation was greeted by Miss Allie Keith. Two MS Normal College faculty members, Mrs. Elmo Jaquette Scott and Ralph McFadden, performed on the artiste program the day before the state convention.
Dillon elects Roscoe Cornell to a third term as mayor amid a burst of auto industry growth. Local dealers report record car sales with multiple carloads unloaded this week and strong demand for many makes, including Chryslers Chevrolets Pontiacs Paiges and Stars.
Copies of masterpieces in carbons and photogravures will be shown at the training school on April 13 14 and 15 with rooms open daily 3 30 to 6 00. On Wednesday evening April 13 a program by pupils of the high school is planned.
Nearly 200 vote majority secures third consecutive term for Mayor Roscoe Cornell. He defeats W T Scully listed as independent with 295 to 97 votes. Citizens caucus slate of March 25 wins unopposed. total 395, the largest Dillon election tally to date.
Beaverhead county boards hear state highway program details and appoint viewers O M Best A L Anderson and George Metlens to inspect the proposed Dillon south route. A change petition for the new road is approved and rights of way will be pursued at a special April 21 meeting. Frank P Bulger wins city treasurer easily with 311 votes to 68 for Mable Mayfield. aldermen elected include Woodside Brundage Waldorf and Lindley Phillips.
Frank Wylie of Scobey a former student in A W Stephenson aviation school landed at Woodside field south of the city Monday evening en route to his home from Los Angeles where he recently purchased a new Ryan plane for Westland Oilcom.
The Dillon Examiner announces exclusive territorial rights to the Meyer Both advertising service. A letter from the Meyer Both Company confirms the Dillon paper is the sole firm receiving the feature service after prior agreements with the Chicago Tribune ended March 1, 1926.
Public service commission granted Thomas P. Lane the right to operate a stage line between Dillon and Whitehall via Twin Bridges after a Whitehall hearing. Northern Pacific opposed the petition while Dillon Rotary Club supported Lane's bid.
Eugene Finch spends the week in Dillon with his mother while Mr. Finch now resides in Missoula where he serves as an instructor at the state university.
Charles A. Burden and Sam Ditty contracted over forty thousand lambs across Beaverhead Madison Powell and other southwestern counties at prices between 10 and 11 cents. The stock will be shipped to Colorado Idaho and eastern points next summer for feeding. They also purchased more than 2000 bred ewes for immediate shipment east.
Senator Frank A. Hazelbaker of Dillon was unanimously chosen to govern Rotary clubs in Montana at the district convention in Butte. The Dillon leader will be confirmed at the international meeting in Ostend, Belgium, in June and assumes duties on July 1. He received a standing ovation from delegates statewide.
One of the finest shipments of steers from this county went to Chicago this week. Shipper W. B. Tash, a Grasshopper Valley rancher, contracted the 200 two-year-olds with Baum & Co of Chicago. Each steer weighed about 1285 pounds and sold around 8 cents per pound, totaling roughly $102.80 per animal. Baum called it one of the finest purchases, rivaling Middle West corn-fed stock.
