The Dillon church celebrated its fiftieth anniversary with special services after founding on March 31, 1883 and dedication of the current building in 1886. Rev. Pritchard was the first resident pastor in 1888, and Rev. R. O. Shannon has led for six years.
The Dillon Independents, state champions, were guests at a banquet in the Hanson cafe as local fans honored the Normal College squad for winning the Montana independent title at Great Falls. Speakers recalled past champions and notable incidents, including how Duke Gilbert deterred a Deer Lodge mob with an ax.
The M G M studio crew selected the Big Hole Basin for a vitaphone short showing a coyote hunt from an airplane. The remoteness and presence of many coyotes threatening sheep flocks drew the choice for a novel movie sequence. The plane was used for aerial filming.
Dillon Lodge No. 1654 Elks motored to Butte Lodge No. 240 for a meeting with Deer Lodge and Anaconda visitors. They initiated two Dillon candidates Kenneth Wheat and Henry Deutsch while Dillon quartet Ellis sang. Attendees included Exalted Ruler J Leonard Innes and other officers, with many local Elks present. Plans for a Dillon Elks dance were announced.

The Montana State Normal college winter quarter honor roll lists sixty-seven students led by Regina Briggeman Gold Creek Willig Chance Square Butte and Helen Rice Great Falls tied for first with 3.00 GPA per credit. Dillon and Great Falls show strong representation with multiple 6 honors. Joe Smith tops Dillon with 2.7 GPA on 20 credits.
The Lyric Quartette comprising Mrs J P Jeppson Mrs W G Gilbert Dr W H Stephan and H D Jowett sang at a Butte LDS church meeting. Accompanist Ralph MacFadden provided piano support.
Gilbert A. McNinch longtime Beaverhead County resident died at his Dillon home last Wednesday evening after a lengthy illness. Born in Galesburg Illinois he came to Montana as a young man and farmed near Dell before retiring due to poor health. Survived by two sons E W McNinch Dillon and Earl McNinch Casper Wyoming two daughters Mrs Lon Griggs Lima and Mrs Alva Gray Casper a sister Mrs Della Downing Caldwell Idaho and a brother Witbir.
Ethel Kennedy, freshman, was crowned queen of Beaverhead County High School’s Fools Frolic carnival. Beryl Woody served as maid of honor, with Beatrice Bayers, Dorothy Talent, Margaret Winter and others as candidates and attendees. The two night program drew large crowds with entertainment and a coronation ceremony.
Dillon will become the first Montana town to legally taste beer next Friday as Becca beer from Ogden arrives by express. The Dillon Bottling Works, among the first to receive a beer license, will sell to adults 21 and over with cash on delivery. The shipment signals the end of fourteen years of prohibition in the state.
Mary Farrell won the Litening gas song contest conducted by Beaverhead Auto Sales after weeks of judging. Her entry was judged best among county scores and she received a five dollar gas coupon book. Jane Kellum took second and Howard Morse Jr. placed third.
Beaverhead Emergency Relief board will continue to operate during April. Officers announced Saturday that work will be provided to scores of men countywide who would otherwise be idle. A substantial road improvement program is indicated in the plan.
The Dillon Rotary Club plans varied weekly dinners with about once a month a short public interest paper for general discussion. The first program will be scheduled soon after a Monday night informal meeting led by program chair Tom Luebben. Francis Dean and Jimmy Harris praised the community support for the recent high school carnival. Dr. Walter H. Stephan sang with Ralph McFadden at the piano, and an encore by Robert Frany followed. President T. Lee McCracken announced official items and read a message from Rotary International President Clin ton P. Anderson.
Ladies of St. Rose parish finalize plans for their annual Easter Monday dance at the city hall auditorium on Monday night April 17. The event is predicted to be one of the best attended of the spring season with tickets sold this week. Music will be provided by the Orange Crush orchestra.
In Dillon, over 200 ballots were cast as regular candidates won all contests. Mayor elect W Emerick received 201 votes with no opposition, succeeding H L Mc Caleb who did not seek re election. Police judge Gruwell topped 200 votes to 10 for George Opp, the current incumbent appointed to fill the late L P Phillips term. Frank C McFadden also won in the race.
Rapid action by Dillon volunteer fire department prevented major damage after two alarms this week. A defective flue likely started a noon blaze at Chris Bay’s South Montana home, fanned by winds. A rear garage at Harry McMannis’s East Glendale home burned Monday evening. crews saved the structure. County officials including W B Hartwig and Edgar Rife assisted, removing a sedan from the blaze. Winds caused broad county damage with uprooted trees and downed radio aerials across the state.
Forest Supervisor A A Simpson said Roosevelt's Reforestation bill appears not to replace anticipated funding but to serve as relief rather than unemployment relief. Men will be housed by the Labor Department and sent to woods jobs via army facilities, with Forest Service providing work and care after placement.
The Greater University and allied agencies will receive 1,261,902 annually in the coming biennium, a 25 percent decrease from 1931-32 and 26.8 percent from 1932-33. Seven thousand dollars comes from the university millage fund with the rest from fees, interest, and land grant income. The Dillon Monida highway oiling, halted in winter, will resume within two weeks per Butte division highway engineer Mr Steere. Oil work will extend to the Idaho line this summer for an unbroken oil road from the line to Buttd. The Monida pass reopened to motor traffic this week after months of snow on the Idaho side.
