No Special Tax on Livestock Abolished by Montana Assembly
The Tenth Montana assembly repealed state special taxes on cattle horses sheep and other livestock under house bill 418. The move aims to fund stock and sheep inspection and indemnity funds but may leave the wolf bounty fund without revenue. Attorney General Galen’s opinion holds tax class differentiation may violate uniformity or equality provisions, suggesting counties or the general fund handle bounties.
