Judge Henry G. Rodgers Seeks State Supreme Court Seat

Dillon jurist Henry G. Rodgers announced his candidacy on the Republican ticket for Associate Justice of the Montana Supreme Court. A Montana resident for 36 years, he has held public roles since 1894 including clerk to the U.S. Attorney for Montana.

Holy Week Observance Planned in Dillon

A Dillon observance with daily public services is planned for Holy Week. The Layman's committee met last Friday at the Baptist cottage and appointed committees to organize activities. Virginia Randolph will defend her district oratorical title at Butte next Friday representing Beaverhead County High School for a second year, with the topic The Interpretation of the Constitution.

Woolgrowers to Fix Yearly Wage Scale Session at Beaverhead

Beaverhead and Madison counties woolgrowers plan a meeting to set wages for lumberers and shearers. Murray Stebbins, secretary of the Montana Woolgrowers Association, will speak on state ranching challenges during his tour.

Wise River Prospector Found Dead in Snow

Theodore Dzvoe a Wise River miner and Elkhorn mines worker with miner's consumption was found dead last Thursday in front of his cabin with head and shoulders buried in snow. He apparently died several days earlier after a sudden attack and was buried Saturday in Mountain View cemetery in Dillon.

Wool Corporation Advances 350000 to Montana Sheepmen

Montana Wool Cooperative Association reported last evening that it had advanced about 350 000 in pre shearing funds for this year. The largest single advance was 18700 to Manger Company. Montana leads the nation in stock holdings of the National Wool Marketing Corporation with 55 shares, followed by Wyoming 40 and South Dakota 20. Applications at Helena office may push the total beyond 400 000.

Elk Lodge to Install Officers Next Tuesday

Dillon lodge No. 1564 B P O E will install officers next Tuesday night at the Oddfellows hall. A stag party with refreshments and entertainment is planned. E L Poindexter will become exalted ruler, succeeding Terry Browning. A bungalow foundation by M Mc Farlin is under excavation on North Atlantic street between the Battman and Albert Featherly houses.

High Honor to Be Conferred on William Orr III

William Crosby Orr III of Dillon will receive the Legion of Honor, the highest DeMolay award, at the State Conclave in Butte April 11 12 and 13. The honor follows his display of exceptional work and public merit in the DeMolay order.

Beaverhead Mining Men Hold Inaugural County Meeting

Beaverhead mining men from every section attended the first regular meeting of the Beaverhead Mining Association at the courthouse Saturday night. Speaker Philip J. Shenon urged development in the Bannack and Argenta districts and predicted great mineral resources. George B. Conway urged forming a Beaverhead exhibit for the state fair. Ralph Rowlands discussed metal values and local mining conditions. Twelve new members were inducted.

Marble Tourney Ends as D Moore Wins Un disputed

D Moore defeated Price in the finals to claim the undisputed Dillon marble championship at the training school. Participants included Price, D Moore, Prelate, Kajin, Mori, and F Moore with semi finals featuring Sill, Cashmore, Johnson, Forrester, and others under Principal B L Fairbanks supervision.

Dillon High Paper Earns Fourth in National Contest

The Beaver Beaverhead county high school weekly The Beaver placed fourth in class B of a national contest sponsored by Columbia University. It marks Dillon High School's second straight top finish among some 1,600 entries across classes. Hurley Leach, new arrival from California, plans to spend the summer here for mining business with his wife and daughter in San Diego past winter.

Beaverhead Rancher Dies In Apparent Suicidal Shot

An inquest reviews the death of Joseph Spehar a noted Beaverhead valley rancher who used his crippled wife’s crutch to fire a 12 gauge shotgun at his chest. The shot near the heart ended his life around 10 30 Sunday morning after he had finished breakfast and retreated to his bedroom.

Four Men Sentenced in Steer Theft Case

AUL BUCHALI and William Se bian were sent to Deer Lodge to serve five and three year terms for stealing a steer from the Flynn brothers ranch. Ben Sebfan received five years but the sentence was suspended on county attorney recommendation. The arrests followed a Beaverhead canyon cabin search where a Flynn brand hide was found.

Drive for Local Boy Scout Fund Opens This Morning

A Dillon drive for an $800 Boy Scout fund opened this morning to boost local troops with city business leaders in charge. Committee members Lambert Eliel, Fred Chapman, T. Lee McCracken, W. B. Hartwig, T. B. Luebben and L. K. Adams will visit shops over three days. Boxes will be placed in the post office, First National Bank, State Bank & Trust, and Terry Browning's for in person and out of town donations.

Legion Meeting at Armstead a Decided Success

Nearly thirty ex service men attended a banquet at Armstead under Beaverhead post of the American Legion. The session completed plans for a series of meetings in other communities. A dinner was served at the Armstead schoolhouse followed by a lively business session. George R. Bakers proposal to rename the post from Beaverhead to Vigilante was favorably discussed and action will be taken at the next meeting.
