Eldridge Iowa Grew From Rail Center To Town
Eldridge Iowa began in 1871 at the Davenport Railroad junction and Maquoketa branch founded by Jacob M. Eldridge. Early industry included car and engine shops, stores, hotels, a church, and a post office. A 1918 tornado caused heavy damage. Eldridge later expanded after World War II with a mink ranch, a Lutheran church, and a growing population exceeding 680 by the 1960s.
