DeWitt's 1956 football team went 8-0, scoring 214 points and allowing 25. Four players earned First Team All-LOW Conference honors: Chuck Runge Ron Neessen Gary Stoefen and Ray Clement with Jay Dockendorf and Mel Boyer on the second team. Season scores included Maquoketa 12-7 Fulton 55-6 Savanna 14-0 Amboy 26-0 Morrison 19-0 Bettendorf 20-6 Newman 34-0 St. Mary's 34-6. likely local high school football's first perfect season. Bowling 700-Club Marks 1962-63 Banner Year

DeWitt High School Track Records Highlight 1950s Sparks

DeWitt High School track lists enduring marks from 1947 to 1959 led by Chuck Runge and D Dave Drew. Drew won Drake Relays mile in 1956 with 4 28.8, setting a state high school record. other events feature Runge, Schnack, Ellingsen, and Mohr across sprints, distances, relays and field events. The Observer notes Drew’s tape finish and regards his record unlikely to be broken soon.
