Karl Becomes Norway's King
Returns from 418 constituencies show 238,418 votes in favor of Prince Karl of I as king of Norway and 62,739 against him. Republicans expected 33 percent but polled 21 percent amid regional divides with conservatives on the coast and interior republicans in the north. After midnight a crowd cheered Premier Michelsen and President Borner as the premier addressed the people from a window and congratulated them on the plebiscite results.
