The Great Northern yard crew suspended work on Monday night after reporting the yard engineer as unfit for the position. Four workers refused to work with either the engineer or a foreman, citing exposure to extra danger rather than grievances against the company.
A minor rail accident occurred in the east end of the G N yards between No. 7 and a yard engine. No one was hurt. The yard engine left a main track switch open, delaying No. 7 by minutes. The switchman failed to avert the collision, lifting the caboose onto a flat car. Engineer Ben Skibash attempted emergency braking but could not stop before impact.
