Parole Granted in State versus Hudson Larceny Case

Two Men Cremated in Hotel Fire at Devils Lake

A hotel annex fire at 8 10 Sunday morning killed James Colton and Peter Walden. An explosion from a kerosene lamp started the blaze in a two story structure, causing $6 000 damage and destroying most contents. Colton and Walden were not awakened in time, Colton dying in bed and Walden near a window as smoke overwhelmed him. Inga Olgoh was injured with burns and bruises. Colton had testified in district court against Charles Ludwig in a robbery case prior to his death. The hotel was one of Devils Lake’s first historic buildings.

Funeral Held Thursday for Mrs. A Tow at Grand Harbor

Mrs. A Tow of Grand Harbor died Tuesday morning from a lung hemorrhage after several months ill health. Funeral services were held Thursday morning at St. Joseph church with burial in the local cemetery. She was 33, formerly Miss Lunde, and had lived in Grand Harbor about six years. She married about a year and a half ago, leaving many friends to mourn her passing.

Fire Department Battles Major Blaze Across Several Homes

The Mire department fought a large Thursday morning blaze damaging three dwellings on Fifth Street near the Great Northern tracks. The Alexander home burned completely, two others were damaged, with losses around 2500 insured. Mrs Alexander jumped from a second story window sustaining minor injuries. A lamp explosion caused the fire, and crews were called again at 4 80 A. M. for RK J Whorley’s home near the Deaf school grounds, suffering 500 in building loss and 600 in furniture, insured.

CroOKston Home Burns in Minnesota Fire

Fire destroyed a Crookston Minnesota home owned by Mr and Mrs Tom Hunt after they visited relatives in Deylt Lake. The blaze started from the furnace in the early hours Friday, with two men seen near the furnace shortly before. The fire department saved the structure within minutes though the first floor and stairway were damaged by flames and smoke. The Hints sisters are related to Mrs Hurst and neighbors reported the fire prompted local warnings about grasshopper conditions for farmers.

Editors to Meet in City in June

The North Dakota Press association plans to meet in Devils Lake in late June rather than July during the Chautauqua. Grant Hager nominates June 23 and 24 as dates with a notable newspaper speaker and a mid summer cost congress by the North Dakota Franklin club. Weather notes mark the vernal equinox and early spring in the Red River valley as seeding begins and farmers prepare for near normal rains and a possible dry season.
