The State Teachers Association wrapped its largest meeting last Thursday with a new badge registration system boosting names to 258 from 140 last year. Attendance likely exceeded 300. President E Benj Andrews of Lincoln Nebraska and Supt John Kennedy of Batavia led talks on American expansion, the Monroe doctrine, and closer instruction methods. New officers were elected and the next gathering set for Fargo.

Mrs Margaret McCarthy a well known Rameey county resident died Sunday in Tucson Arizona of tuberculosis after health declined since last fall. She leaves four children the eldest about 20 and the youngest a six year old. Two younger children attended St Benedicts college at St Cloud Minn and came home with Sister Pius for the funeral. Thos Sullivan of Webster is a brother. She belonged to the Degree of Honor and carried some insurance. Relatives extend sympathy to the community.

The first annual Firemen's Ball hosted by Devils Lake Firemen took place in the Armory on Tuesday evening January 5. About one hundred couples attended with a late night luncheon around midnight and music by Prote's Orchestra.
