Starkweather News Highlights Weekend Visitors and Local Goings-On
Lene Erikstad visited Starkweather from Devils Lake last weekend staying with Rev. Aaberg. Mrs. Grimes attended Roy Anderson's wedding in Devils Lake last Wednesday. Officials including Sheriff Rutten and Judge Duell arrived on Friday to inspect the town between trains. Dr. Davenport headed to Devils Lake after medical work locally. Mrs. Annie Gillerlain stayed with the Huss family after traveling from Devils Lake. Telephone lines were out, isolating Starkweather briefly. Mike Ring and Ed Fagnant visited from Grand Harbor on Saturday night and returned on Monday. Geo W W Davis and his wife returned for a few days during the legislative recess and he works on district division petitions. The Farmers Road special train remains popular, running straight through without switching.

Andrew Shervin of Grand Harbor township fell ill with pneumonia while at school in Devils Lake. He is improving and able to sit up. Other locals, including John McKay and the Scott brothers, plan a return from Alberta in about ten days. Frank Emigh and family wintered at Turtle Mountain ranch. Grand Harbor seeks a hotel or restaurant and feed barn to boost business. Judge Grilly joined a Grand Harbor party visiting Devils Lake. The Great Northern introduces a new timetable with The Puget Sound Express and The Flyer linking St. Paul, Seattle, and Chicago, plus a coast-to-coast rapid route lasting about 60 hours Seattle to St. Paul.

Starkweather residents and officials traveled by train to Devils Lake for court juror summons. Hon. Geo W Davis and Mrs Davis joined from Starkweather while Lene Erikstad Einar Lee and Homer Reeler accompanied. Sheriff Rutten arrived by train to arrange jurors. Mrs Davis planned a stay in Devils Lake before returning home. Final proof day occurred with Siver Scramgard aiding Homer Resler in proofs for Olive Mason and Flora A Smith. Next Scrumgard visit set for March 2.
