In Seward County Kansas many face starvation as crops failed and poverty grew. A letter to the West Plains postmaster from Mrs. James K Richards describes dire hunger and lack of clothing for children and adults. She requests aid sent to West Plains be distributed to those in need.
A Monday night raid by a large group of masked men demanded Bohemian Enlian Bosch, employed by Jacob Kotchever, leave the Tartic Mountain brewery under threat of shooting. Bosch, awakened, was forced to exit as others seized him with a rope. The mob escorted him off and warned he must not return, amid suspicion staff were misled by Tucker and Kotchever. Subsequent incidents involved Kilian Bosch and Simmonitch assaulting Carl Stoff, with warrants issued but dismissed for lack of evidence.
