City High Wins Inter Ocean Prize in Regional Writing Contest
The city high school won the grand prize in a four state competition for best composition and story writing. A tie with a St Paul school was broken by originality, literary training, and reading breadth. Winners were Juliette Shortridge Susie Small Hazel Fancher and Nellie Baldwin.

Girl Heroine in House Fire Accident
A serious accident at Dr. Sihler's home left Mary Eklund fifteen a brave nurse girl burned while polishing stove polish mixed with gasoline. She saved the baby by grabbing it and fleeing the room as flames enveloped her clothing. The baby suffered a minor burn, and Mary is receiving care with a hopeful outlook for recovery. The incident condemns the dangerous sale of such mixtures.
