Murderer Escapes Jail After Slaying Fritz Phillipp
James O'Brien, inmate awaiting district court for the Fritz Phillipp murder, broke two bars in the jail south east window and fled yesterday afternoon. He used hanging trousers to hide the work and vanished into the area. Deputies and posses pursued eastward. outside help and Davis, also jailed, may have aided the escape. A $200 reward was offered for his capture.

Brakeman Stevens dies after hospital injury
Brakeman Stevens, struck by a Black assailant last week on his train from Bismarck, died late Tuesday at Brainerd hospital. The assailant Griffin was arrested and held to answer the charge of a serious case, bound over to district court in $10,000.

Obituary of Elijah Chapman Resident of Cando North Dakota
Elijah Chapman of Cando North Dakota died August 12 1902 after a brief illness. Born in Tioga County New York in 1831 he married Romelia Osborn in 1853 and moved west in 1853 arriving in North Dakota in 1884. A respected Towner County resident for thirteen years he was a devoted husband and father leaving a wife and seven children six daughters and one son R A Chapman of Bisbee North Dakota among the survivors.

Funeral Held for Several Residents in North Dakota Community
Funeral services were held August 13 at the Congregational church for residents including Mrs. P. Obs tead of Cando and Mrs. Riley of White Hall Michigan. Burial followed in Cando cemetery as relatives and friends extend community sympathy.
