St Lucie County approves bed tax for stadium plans
In a November referendum St Lucie County voters approved a 2 percent bed tax 56 to 46 percent planned to fund a baseball stadium. Support came from the Chamber of Commerce and developers under a Pennies For Progress banner with a land donation and contributions to cover any shortfall. Officials expect $312 000 this year and aim to lure the Cincinnati Reds for spring training while statewide bed tax revenue neared 30 million.
