Destin resident Lucyle Middleton questioned the 1985-1986 budget as the city planned 75000 to hire two deputies. She contends county police cover protection and cites a civil suit with her husband against the city over enforcement near their home on U S 98 west of Henderson Beach.
The Destin Seafood Festival Committee reports all systems are go for the Oct. 5 6 event. All 150 booths are taken with a 100 booth waiting list. Booth sales total about 15000 dollars. Electricity and water will be installed at the festival grounds Wednesday and Thursday. Volunteers are welcome to help. Parking is under control and a tram system will move attendees. The event expects about 80000 festival goers.
Deputy Medical Examiner Edmund Kielman reports Bruce E. Coney, 43, died from an air embolism while diving in 80 feet off Destin. He surfaced with blood from the mouth and died later at Humana Hospital. Water and air pressure at surfacing likely caused the embolism as he exhaled.
