DOT Moves Ahead On 98 Sidewalk in Destin With Easements
The Florida Department of Transportation has secured private easements from six landowners along Highway 98 in Destin to build a seven tenths mile, five foot wide sidewalk on the north side. Project costs and funding sources will be determined after final estimates. Okaloosa Asphalt will widen medians and remove curbside parking later, with Downtown Fort Walton Beach merchants exploring off street parking as work proceeds. Continued on Page 7A.

F-15 Lands at Destin Airport Under Emergency Fuel Stress
An Eglin Air Force Base F-15 Eagle, with dwindling fuel, landed safely at Destin Airport after a mid-air refueling and mock combat mission. Pilot Capt. Mike Dugger had about 140 gallons left, enough for minutes of flight, and avoided wrecking the $20 million jet.
