South Walton OKs Fire District by Vanita Trippe
South Walton County voters approved creating a fire control district for the fast growing beaches area by a three to one margin in a special referendum and elected a seven member commission. In the three precincts turnout was 31 percent with 329 to 110 in favor overall and differing local results by Point Washington Santa Rosa Beach and Miramar Beach. Howard Hoban won the at large seat with 166 votes to 136 for Jim Anthony and others. Voters for Point Washington chose Robert Davis and Al Flowers to the board, Santa Rosa Beach elected Fleet and Ryan, Miramar Beach chose Patton and Lawson, and Patton pledged the work has just begun.
