Counter-Current Theory Studied In Destin Harbor Aerators
A Tallahassee research team will inject harmless orange dye near Destin Harbor aerators to test the counter-current theory of water exchange between lagoon and Gulf. The study aims to map how much water moves surface to offshore and how the aerators mix saltwater with freshwater to improve oxygenation and overall water quality.

Nitrogen levels rise near Destin percolation ponds
Monitoring wells around the Destin Water Users percolation ponds show total nitrogen peaking at 5.66 ppm, with March levels at 3.66 ppm, while phosphorous remains minimal in Old Pass Lagoon. Officials say the nitrogen plume shifted direction and expanded south of the ponds, not yet impacting the harbor.
