Beautification Subgroup to Study Policies for Two Counties
A subcommittee of the governor's coastal growth panel miight meet today at Sandestin to review model beautification ordinances dune protection signage and landscaping. Doug Buck of the Department of Community Affairs says the group will set its focus this first meeting and hear county policies next week.

St Jude Wheels For Life Bike-A-Thon Saturday
Destin youngsters and riders are invited to participate in the St Jude Wheels For Life Bike-A-Thon set for Saturday September 15 at the American Legion Post on Main Street. The event offers 18 prizes plus a Special Bonus Prize by Alice and Mike Berardi. Free bicycles may be available, and free hot dogs cokes and barbecue sandwiches are provided. Riders and volunteers receive a free T shirt. The fundraiser benefits St Jude Children's Research Hospital and begins at 9 a.m.

Aeration System Raises Oxygen in Destin Harbor Canals
State biologist Jess Van Dyke reports that the Sandpiper Cove canal in Destin’s Old Pass Lagoon shows higher dissolved oxygen levels at five meters depth compared with the non aerated harbor area. Preliminary data indicate a more mixed salinity, a broken saltwater wedge, and oxygen improvements tied to operating diffusers.

Destin Fire Board to Meet Monthly in 1984 85
Destin Fire District commissioners voted to hold monthly meetings due to increased department business. The next session is Oct 1 to review a 12 page lease with Destin Community Center. The board approved bonuses for Hank Berry and Wanda Martin and a 5 percent raise for fulltime firefighters. A replacement for Inspector Carroll will be hired.
