Councilman Richard Duke calls for an emergency ordinance to ban shooting within city limits after complaints of gunfire near residential areas off Airport Road. Humana Destin Hospital reported pellets landing near its building as concerns rise ahead of Monday’s council meeting.
City officials shifted the November 3 council meeting to Thursday October 30 at 7 p.m. The Destin Community Center is used as a polling precinct for November 4, with voting machines set up beforehand, requiring the schedule change. The meeting will be held at the Community Center.
Okaloosa County commissioners reinstated 17000 for the Joe's Bayou Boat Ramp project on Beach Drive. Destin City Manager said public boat launch improvements include designated parking and restroom facilities. bids are being accepted with a 2 p.m. Friday deadline for submission.
The She Blows Indian Bayou Country Club will start irrigating its golf course Monday using treated effluent from the Destin Water Users wastewater plant. Testing of the spray system has concluded and final plant work testing will finish next week. The course will use about 700,000 gallons of effluent daily on a monthly basis with two disinfection steps in the treatment.

Destin postmaster McLeod received a year’s outstanding service award at a Sandestin Beach Resort ceremony hosted by Pensacola MSC Postmaster Ronald Campbell. The event also named Beach Postmaster Terry Vaughn Non-City Postmaster, while Fort Walton Beach’s Carl Garrett won first in the Express Mail Sales Contest. McLeod noted the award honors the entire office and credited staff and supervisors for dedication.
