Airport Access Dispute Over Destin Runway Route

Fire chief Hank Berry says the 200-foot gate route is inadequate for the crash truck, while County Engineer Dave Heinrich and Airport Manager Coy Thomason cite cost and similar distance. County plans to review emergency access in the Airport Master Plan update.

Public Hearing On Henderson Beach Park Plans
Plans for Henderson Beach State Recreation Area in Destin will add up to 775 parking spaces, picnic facilities, a ranger residence, and a fence along three park sides. A revised plan preserves part of Highway 98 for park use with boardwalks and a dune restoration approach. A November public hearing will invite comment on improvements to 208 acres and 1.0 mile of beach under the Save Our Coast program with funding potential up to 1.2 million for 1985 86.

DWU Board rejects Franklin plant and taps plan
Destin Water Users directors voted to remove from consideration the purchase of developer Ross Franklin's wastewater plant for 2 million dollars for 2060 future taps. They also denied requests for two commercial taps and transfer of 32 taps from Indian Trail. The board authorized speedier work to cut infiltrated sewer water and approved a $40,615 computer system.
