Ward to chair Natural Resources Panel on Growth Issues
Rep. James Ward, representing Destin and South Walton, is named chair of the House Natural Resources Committee. The panel will push growth management and medical delivery, examining coastal barriers and Choctawhatchee Bay transportation options. Ward, who has served on environmental issues and opposed a Choctawhatchee Bay Causeway Authority bill, defends his stance and anticipates transportation authority proposals after the governor's growth management committee's input.

Coast Group OKs Choctawhatchee Bay study expansion
The Northwest Florida Coast Resource Planning and Management Committee approved the Northwest Florida Water Management District and state agencies to extend studies on Choctawhatchee Bay water quality and pollution sources. Data would support predictive analysis for existing sources or future constructions like a mid bay crossing, with stormwater runoff from northern agricultural lands highlighted as a major pollutant. The panel also discussed marine sizing policies and broader growth management measures including flood plains beaches shores dunes signage and landscaping standards.
