Mixson Defends Industry Growth Amid Unitary Tax Debate
Lt Gov Wayne Mixson urged Northwest Florida to keep a pro industry climate while criticizing the 1983 statewide unitary tax. He cited growth in Destin and Okaloosa County, warned the tax could deter foreign investment, and backed a repeal through a special session. Local groups urged repeal to protect Florida’s business image.

Swaps Define Okaloosa County Isle Right of Way
Fort Walton Beach lawyers announced a court ordered settlement ending a four year dispute over the isle right of way. The agreement swaps a 50 foot easement west of Durango Road for a 50 foot width across the isle and includes transfers of 48.13 acres to Destin Guardian Corp for about 10 million dollars. Destin Guardian then sold 1.84 acres to Yost and Blue for 13 thousand four hundred dollars. County commissioners approved the easement swap two weeks earlier, concluding a 1979 lawsuit against White Sands Saudi and Yost as the county identifies its right of way.
