The sixth annual Rodeo Run begins with an 8 a.m. 10 K and a 9:15 a.m. One Mile Fun Run for youth 10 and under and 11 to 13. Harbor Docks and Log Newspapers sponsor. Registration is $6.50 with late entries welcome at the park. The course starts and ends at Taylor Park on Calhoun Avenue.
We're Lucky Destin earns its title as fishing village of fortune as two records fall in three days aboard Capt. Kelly Windes' Sunrise. E Lane Nichols III of Clearwater lands a 46 pound 8 ounce Red Snapper and Charles Johnson of Fort Walton Beach reels in a 64 pound 4 ounce Grouper, with more prizes ahead.
Destin Deputy Ray MacGrogan warned Maggie Bendvenga and Linda Dooley to stop roller skating on U S 98. Bendvenga was arrested, booked, and released on a $250 signature bond. Dooley says residents seek safe jogging and skating paths in Destin.

The Department of Community Affairs issues its first quarterly report card criticizing Destin and South Walton for slow progress on the governor’s Resource Management Plan. It warns of possible Area of Critical Concern designation next spring, which would hand oversight to the DCA, with water quality and wastewater management highlighted as key issues to be monitored monthly. Okaloosa County Commissioners and Destin leaders push a White Point Piney Point Bridge citing lower costs and environmental work. With design advances the price could drop from 40 50 million to about 22.4 million, similar to a North Carolina project. Growth along U S 98 and future traffic demand strengthen the case for a north south corridor.
Developer Ernest Shahid filed a lawsuit against the city of Destin seeking judicial review and a trial de novo after the City Council denied his U S 98 office condominium plans. He asks for a parking variance project approval and a construction permit, citing alleged unjustified denial. The suit follows prior Planning Commission actions and repeated reviews of the project.
Bryan Klein survived a deadly crash on Okaloosa Island when a 1967 Camaro driven by Eric Brimling struck a delivery truck on U S 98 after dropping off Brimling's girlfriend at the Sheraton Coronado Beach Resort. Friends Richard Doolittle and Eric Brimling died. Bryan recalled waking in an ambulance as he learned of the losses.
