Destin Man Killed In 98 Bicycle Crash. Driver Charged With DUI

A Destin bicycle rider, Sid Mullen, died after being hit from behind on Highway 98 by a 1971 Plymouth driven by Frank Gerald Sims who was later charged with driving under the influence. The collision occurred near Main Street at about 7 15 p m. Mullen died of head injuries at Humana Hospital Fort Walton Beach. This is the 38th traffic fatality in Okaloosa County this year.

Ward Shelves Causeway Issue For Now

Rep. James Ward said he will not re introduce a Choctawhatchee Bay causeway or bridge authority bill this session. He cited Gov. Graham's veto and a new study committee as reasons to shelve the project for about 15 years. He criticized Proposition 1 and discussed tax policy with the South Walton Lions.

Docks Approved Funds Contributed In Destin Harbor

Destin developer Art Hill won tentative approval to build 39 boat slips in Old Pass Lagoon. Okaloosa County commissioners approved the plan to construct a private marina for East Pass Towers residents on Holiday Isle, with Dowd to review an agreement interpretation dispute and Hill contributing funds for harbor cleanup. The issue centers on a right of way clause limiting improvements to 200 feet of harbor frontage while Hill argues up to 500 feet may be used for docks. Commissioner Mike Mitchell says only the first 200 feet may be used for development. the rest remains off limits.
