Veteran recalls World War I service and Cape May unit memories
An 82 year old veteran from Walton County recounts his WWI Navy experiences. He details guard duty at Wissahickon Barracks and Cape May, mine sweeper service, voyage dangers off New Jersey, the Avalon Coast Guard station, and a hospital visit. He notes food, gear losses, Armistice moments, and postwar reserves participation. He laments modern Americans’ limited knowledge of the war.
