Coast Guard budget cuts threaten 14 stations and 3 air bases
Jack Pridgen, press secretary to Sen. Lawton Chiles, says the budget broke a promise. Both Florida senators Chiles and Hawkins opposed the proposed cuts while Rep. Earl Hutto voted to preserve funds. The Coast Guard braces for a nationwide impact, with Gracey estimating a $230 million cut could close 14 stations and three air stations.
