Public Hearing On Destin Fort Walton Beach Transportation Projects
The Metropolitan Planning Organization will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. on Monday November 7 at the Shalimar Courthouse Annex to discuss proposed highway improvements in Destin and Fort Walton Beach. Plans include six laning Highway 98 from Calhoun Avenue to Airport Road and a new four mile extension to the Walton County line, with a low bidder already named and construction to start within three months. Discussed low cost items include a traffic signal at Highway 98 and Calhoun Avenue with later turn lanes, plus turn lanes on Highway 98 and Benning Drive. The MPO coordinates Okaloosa County transportation planning and forwards recommendations to the state for action.
