DWU Water and Sewage Rates Set for June Increase
DWU customers will see a moderate increase in water and sewer charges starting with the June 25 bill, pending board approval. The change applies to usage fees only, with tap-in fees possibly rising later. current minimum water rates are $4 for most, $1.50 per unit for motels, and sewer charges range from $8.50 to $17.50, residential at $10. The board is expected to approve at its Tuesday meeting, and the utility plans a $1.6 million tertiary sewage filter project to spray treated wastewater on Indian Bayou Country Club, including a $200,000 engineering fee, targeting late 1985 or early 1986 completion.

Florida Coastal Bill Sparks Debate Over Development
Ward calls Senate plan too specific while supporters say the measure strengthens coastal protections. The bill by Sen. George Stuart would bar state funds for infrastructure in undeveloped barrier islands and penalize reconstruction after hurricanes. Opponents fear statewide impact on growth and jobs, while backers cite tougher building standards and uniform treatment.
