Walton County Circuit Judge Clyde B Wells ruled the county commission district map failed to meet state requirement for near equal population and ordered adoption of a court drawn plan. The decision, issued late last week, notes road mileage cannot be a factor in redistricting. The court's map assigns populations across five districts with District 1 4717, District 2 4296, District 3 4129, District 4 3955 and District 5 4203 residents. Maynard of the Walton County Taxpayers Association called the ruling a partial win and said he will review the court map. The judge ordered the county to adopt and publish the court plan.
