Walton County Eyes New Jail to Relieve Crowding and Expand Offices
Walton County circuit clerk Catherine King outlined the need for a new jail before the South Walton Santa Rosa Beach Kiwanis Club. She cited overcrowding, parking at the courthouse complex, and space for administrative offices, deputies, and satellite services including the state attorney and public defender offices, ambulance and veterans affairs. The plan envisions modernizing the old jail for office use and reshuffling the courthouse layout to double the commission chamber space. King linked growth in residents and tourism to increased personnel and space requirements.
