Destin Panel Recommends Deputy for Traffic Control
The Public Safety Committee will urge the Destin City Council to hire one Okaloosa County deputy, with option for a second, to handle traffic control. The city would pay about $27,000 yearly for the deputy and roughly $3,000 for a police car. the sheriff’s department would provide the deputy, radar, and radio. The deputy would work 40 hours weekly, including weekends and some nights, to improve compliance and reduce accidents at Highway 98 Beach Drive and Main Street. If approved, the sheriff’s dispatch system would be used, and scheduling would be coordinated with the city manager, though costs are a concern.
