The log asks residents about paying four cents more per gallon to fund roads and bridges in Okaloosa and Walton counties. Jeanette Hadaway of Contoocook NH supports the idea if it improves roads and bridges. A local resident notes gas here is about 50 cents cheaper than back home.
A humorous sketch by Steve Humphries describes a subculture named K-Mart in the Daytime. The narrator savors the faux soap opera vibe where shoppers, especially women, act as the driving characters while husbands nap at the store. The piece playfully critiques midday shopping culture.
A humor vignette captures a chaotic shopping scene in the ladies department as bargain seekers flood the aisles for last year fashion at half price. Voices clash over halter tops while a shopper quips about K Mart as a warning, ending with a tense dominoes joke.
A travel diary piece from a luxury lodging, comparing rooms with the Cloister and Peabody, mocking bold wallpaper and dated amenities. The author notes a garish orange green decor, a suspicious TV, a shallow tub, and a shag rug transformed into mush, while calling the room tacky yet labeled luxury. The author recalls a prior stop and hints at a lesson learned about seeking bargains.
Viewpoint recalls a crummy motel stay and a family memory from Florida. The author notes dirty rooms, a rattling heater, a broken lock, and a mention of childhood warnings about “the sheets.” The piece weaves personal experience with humor and a cautionary tone.
