Ric and Debbie Jeffries of Destin recognize friend Robert Trautmann on the TWA 847 passenger list as hijackers seize the jet. Trautmann, his wife Irma, and three daughters were aboard. Visitor From Mississippi Drowns While Swimming Gulf
A 62 year old Mississippi man, Warren Wild of McComb, died Monday after drowning in the Gulf of Mexico behind the Silver Beach Motel. He was taken to Humana Hospital Fort Walton Beach and pronounced dead at 11 14 a m from apparent heart failure. Lifeguards and bystanders attempted resuscitation. The deputy medical examiner released the body without autopsy, noting a history of heart problems. Continued on Page 2A.

Warren Culbertson and the Dixie Darling crew claimed the Second Annual Destin Warm-up Blue Marlin Tournament crown with a 9081 pound blue marlin, a Florida state record. After repeated prior battles in the canyon since Memorial Day weekend, Lee Chaffin landed the prize, while Culbertson’s team also earned top honors aided by “Lee's Luck.” The 2 a.m. start and canyon bite led to the dramatic victory as Chaffin netted a 146 pound fish for second place in the event.
