Corps Says Close Weir Move Channel
The Destin Charter Boat Association unanimously approved the U S Corps of Engineers plan to dredge a 180 foot natural channel to 22 feet and close the weir at the east jetty. Alton Colvin of the Panama City office outlined costs bids and environmental permits with work to start in July and weir closure likely this fall. Colvin noted possible future changes including lengthening the east jetty and stressed coordination with boat captains.

DOT DWU Plan Tests for Cracked Sewers in Destin
The state DOT and Destin Water Users will test two sites in Destin for a cracked sewer line linked to suspected fecal coliform in stormwater drains. Tests run June 21 use automatic samplers and dye tracing, with Gulf Shore Drive as a key site. DWU also forms a committee to lease a 150-square-foot parcel from the Community Center for a water well and elevated tank, term to be August 1 onward.
