Destin Incorporation Bill Nearing Law June 22
Gov aid Joy Hammerschmidt said the Destin incorporation bill, set to allow village residents to vote on November 6, is expected to become law June 22. The Legislature amended the bill June 1, excluding about 2,500 acres in east Destin from the charter boundaries. The governor has 15 days from June 7 to act, or the measure becomes law automatically.

Boat Wreck Injures Two Near Destin Bridge
An 18-foot pleasure craft struck a pillar beneath the Destin Bridge at about 6 15 p.m. Sunday injuring two Mobile, Alabama women. Helen Melson, 18, remained hospitalized with internal injuries. Kelly Walrond, 17, was treated and released. The vessel had a 24 inch hole in its starboard side and was not in the main channel. Florida Marine Patrol identified Melson as driver. the incident is under investigation.

Destin issued about 1.6 million in building permits in May for new commercial and residential construction. Highlights include a 250000 shopping center at US 98 and Palmetto Street by JoSenn Homes and a 400000 office building on Airport Road by George Copelan. 53 permits issued, 11 for new homes averaging 46400 each.
