Flag Flies For Fishermen Dedication at Destin Market
Dedication ceremonies honored an 18 by 22 foot American flag atop a 70 foot pole at Sex ton's Fish Market on U S 98. The banner, visible from the Destin Bridge and near fishing boats, bears a golden eagle and honors long time Destin fishing families including the Melvins and Joneses. Kathleen Jones 81 helped hoist the flag while her son Aubrey read a pledge to remember safe harvests and God’s gift Sea. The Melvin clan settled Destin in 1914 and descendants continue fishing in the area with Cathi and Billy Sexton running the market since 1981.

Local governments seek power to declare local emergencies
Rep. Frank Williams introduces an emergency management bill allowing counties and cities to declare a state of local emergency for up to seven days, extendable by 72 hour increments, and to spend funds without public hearings. Gov Graham could consolidate counties and assume local emergency powers during a statewide crisis. Williams expects a July 13 signing.
