Lawmakers Asked To Block Destin Fleet Move

Local residents urged state representatives Robert Harden and Bo Johnson to block moving the Destin charter boat fleet to Okaloosa Island. Critics cited environmental sensitivity, especially a nesting site for the great blue heron, and concerns over public beach access amid rising docking costs and private property leases. DCBA officials defended the plan as protective of the region’s longtime way of life, while some fishermen warned the fleet may have to leave Destin if no action is taken.
