Ferry Contract Awarded in Walton County
Former commissioner Freddy Bishop will run the Bunker Creek ferry in South Walton under a new $1,800 monthly agreement approved by the board. The plan covers 24 hour operation with Bishop to supply extra help at his own expense, replacing the prior operator who worked five days weekly. A civil suit followed, alleging county liability after a boat hit the waterway cable and a vessel was damaged at the crossing. Horton names the county, Army Corps of Engineers, and Coast Guard as parties in the case.
