Congressional push eyed to add Grayton Dunes to Gulf Islands
An aide to Congressman Earl Hutto says a bill could be introduced to include Grayton Dunes in the Gulf Islands National Seashore if state efforts fail. Randy Knepper notes cooperation with Gov. Graham and DOI, with Interior officials to visit Grayton soon. The FDIC's bid process for the 800-acre tract complicates state purchase prospects.

Corps seeks approval to close East Pass weir this summer
The U S Army Corps plans to close the West Jetty weir at East Pass as a stopgap to shoaling problems affecting Destin's channel. If state approval comes, work could start in May and finish by summer’s end. The project includes a new open water dredge material disposal site and would not disrupt marine traffic.

DOT rejects four lane over Choctawhatchee Bay bridge plan
The Florida Department of Transportation ruled out a four lane replacement for the U.S. 331 bridge over Choctawhatchee Bay. The $14.5 million two lane highrise bridge will have 12 foot lanes and 10 foot refuge lanes, with construction starting next year and finishing in 1986. DOT says federal funds do not support widening and the project replaces a structurally failing span.
