Okaloosa County finished fifth among 60 counties at the Florida State Fair in Tampa where the theme These Are The Good Old Days guided displays. Destin Fort Walton Beach Niceville Vaparaiso Crestview Baker Laurel Hill and Eglin Air Force Base contributed to a county exhibit showing past present and future. Co chairmen Rugene Charlie Hasty and L E Bowers led the project.

Page program seeks students for 1987 Legislature
Students ages 12 to 18 in state House District 5 may serve as pages or messengers during the 1987 session. Pages ages 12 to 15 and messengers 15 to 18 receive stipends of 84 and 124 respectively. Florida imposes new redfish limits and gear bans
The Florida Marine Patrol enacted restrictions effective February 12. A statewide 18 inch minimum size applies for redfish, with one fish longer than 32 inches allowed per day per angler. Native redfish may be sold. Treble hooks with live or dead bait are banned, as are snatch hooking gigging and spearing. For details call 438-4903.

Destin Pair Jailed in Cayman Islands Drug Probe
Destin men tied to a two year smuggling operation were jailed in the Cayman Islands on marijuana charges. A sailboat packed with nearly 2000 pounds of cannabis was seized during a predawn raid on Holiday Isle. authorities say the ring used two houses as drop points before shipping drugs.

City mulls lease option to revive Destin Racquet Club
Destin City Council, after a Thursday workshop with the Recreation Committee and residents, favored a lease with an option to buy the Airport Road club. Owner Dr. Joe Carnley cut the price to 880000, claiming 300000 off the original appraisal, with the city paying 30000 first year and an option to purchase for 850000 after year one, for land including six tennis courts and other facilities.
