Destin Landmark Telephone Building Demolished for New Restaurant
The small, white former central switching office for Destin, built in 1951 by Southeastern Telephone, was torn down this week to clear space for a new restaurant. Once pivotal to local service, the structure stood on a triangular patch near Stahlman Avenue and the Destin Community Center, with a history tracing back to early two-wire circuits and later upgrades to microwave and underwater cable.
