Destin lawyers and a state representative warn that ambiguous charter language for Destin and the Destin Fire Control District could strip fire coverage and shrink ad valorem tax revenue if annexed land leaves the district. The 1982 district boundaries and annexation rules risk creating evaporating millage as areas join the city. The issue may require another legislative round to align fire protection areas.
