The Marine Fisheries Commission secured gubernatorial and Cabinet approval for a hook and line exception allowing up to 25 King Mackerel per vessel per day in state waters from Fowley Light to Juniper Inlet off Dade Broward and Palm Beach. Other fishers face a two fish per person per trip limit.

Destin youth team Tops'l, sponsored by Tops's resort, advances to the Florida Youth Soccer Association Second District final in Niceville after an 8-1-1 regular season and divisional wins. The squad, consisting of Destin Elementary students coached by Gary Box, beat Hurlburt AFB 3-2 while playing shorthanded, and defeated Eglin Breakers 7-0 and tied Chimney Sweeps 1-1. The finals schedule lists games against Bluewater Bay and Eglin Blue Devils with awards to follow.
