Navy plans first East Coast Tomahawk test over Destin area
The Navy aims to fire an unarmed Tomahawk over the Destin coastline toward Eglin Air Force Base within about 23 days, delaying earlier targets into late fall. Four tests are scheduled through the 1990s with flights over Okaloosa Walton counties and parts of Alabama, watched by two chase planes, ending via parachute or crash landings on the Eglin reservation. Local activists from the Florida Coalition for Peace & Justice say they plan to disrupt the test flight.
