Shellfish Ban Closes Choctawhatchee Bay Over Bacterial Pollution
Environmental specialist Ernie Barnett of the state Department of Natural Resources says heavy rainfall polluted Choctawhatchee Bay with high bacteria levels, closing shellfishing indefinitely in Walton and Okaloosa counties until fecal coliform levels fall. Oysters and clams may be harvested again once water quality meets safety standards.

About $2,000 was taken from the Beachside Cafe and Bar sometime between 1:30 and 8:15 a.m. Monday. A tire tread mark led from the storage room to a delivery door, with a matching tread found on a hand truck outside a neighboring business.
